Owners and or tenants of office, retail and industrial property can also participate in Homes for Homes by electing to donate 0.1% of sale price at settlement and / or 0.1% of rent on commercial leases

Homes for Homes can accommodate freehold and leasehold participants. The Homes for Homes transaction mechanism:

  • Uses an existing legal mechanism (caveat) to signify a property’s participation in Homes for Homes. For freehold participants, Homes for Homes lodges a caveat to record participant on property title. For leasehold participants, Homes for Homes provides a template clause to be inserted into a standard lease agreement
  • Does not prevent the owner from dealing with their property in the future
  • Can be voluntarily removed by current or subsequent participant(s) at any time
  • Permits other dealings on title (incl. subdivisions and financial dealings such as mortgages)
  • Utilises an opt-out mechanism, so commitment transfers indefinitely with property

Green Star points available to participating Developers

Commercial developments that participate in Homes for Homes can apply to the Green Building Council of Australia to achieve up to two Green Star points as part of the ‘Social Enterprise for Affordable Housing‘ Innovation Challenge. Click here for further details.
